The 10th Digital Earth Summit will take place from the 19th to the 22nd of November 2024 in Kigali, Rwanda.
The International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE) is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and it’s a point of pride to host our summit in Africa. Our mission at ISDE is to promote academic exchange, scientific and technological innovation, education, and international collaboration, all in pursuit of advancing the Digital Earth vision. With 13 symposia and 9 summits organized worldwide thus far, this event marks the second time ISDE has convened in Africa, and the chosen theme, "Digital Intelligence to Sense our Planet and Sustain its Future," is particularly pertinent to this region.
Our collective future hinges on our ability to preserve our planet, ensure fair and sustainable development, and do so collaboratively. Sustaining Africa’s development and preserving its environment should be central to any global sustainable development strategy. What role do digital technologies play in achieving these goals? How can we leverage them for a better understanding of environmental and social phenomena, as well as for more intelligent decision-making?
Last year, we published a paper titled "Digital Earth: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow”
offering a comprehensive overview of the concept and its relevance to sustainable development. I encourage all attendees, especially those new to Digital Earth, to explore it further.
We believe this summit will offer unparalleled opportunities for sharing, communicating, and networking, leading to valuable insights and outputs for the future development of Digital Earth.
